Xbox 360 HDMI AV cable

Xbox 360 HDMI AV Cable

Xbox 360 HDMI cable is what makes the difference between an average gaming experience and an awesome one.  The Xbox 360 HDMI cable is an audio and video cable which is made specifically for the Xbox 360 gaming console. It allows you to connect your console to a high-definition device such as a HDTV (High-Definition Television).

The HDMI cable drastically improves your picture quality and offers a more realistic gaming experience.  The term HDMI stands for High-Definition Multimedia Interface.  The HDMI cable is essentially an AV interface that transmits uncompressed and encrypted digital data streams which provides digital audio and video.

HDMI support a variety of resolutions including 480i, 720i, 480p, 720p, 1080i and finally 1080p. The last one, 1080p offers the best picture quality. Considering the noticable differences between standard-definition and high-definition the Xbox 360 HDMI cable is a must have for any gamer.

As for audio, the Xbox 360 HDMI cable supports Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound which is absolutely fantastic.

Introduction to high-definition

Call of Duty: World at WarHigh-definition as opposed to standard-definition is a digital broadcasting system with a considerably higher resolution than what has previously been available. Just like its ancestral technology SDTV (standard-definition television), HDTV (high-definition television) was originally available just as an analogue broadcast but has since then been made available as a digital format. High-definition is available in three different formats which are 720p, 1080i and 1080p. These different formats of high-definition offer varying resolutions and aspect ratios, 1080p being the best.

In order to make use of a high-definition source such as the Xbox 360 gaming console a special type of cable is required. HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is a compact and efficient audio/video interface which allows for the transmission of digital data.HDMI of course fully supports high-definition data transmission. Other types of cable may be used when connecting an Xbox 360 console to another output device such as a standard computer monitor. In this instance either a VGA or a DVI cable would be used (although a lot of modern monitors also support HDMI) instead.

Xbox 360 Ethernet cable

Ethernet cableFortunately the cable used by the Xbox 360 console to connect to the internet isn’t anything special. It’s commonly known as an Ethernet cable. Ethernet cables are the worldwide standard in networking cables for this sort of task. They can be used to connect gaming consoles, computers, networked entertainment systems, network switches, routers, servers, and so much more. Because of such wide use they are also very easy to get hold of. While Microsoft does offer its own branded version of this cable it is also available elsewhere at a very low price.

Ethernet cables come in a variety of lengths so you’ll want to have an idea as to how far you need it to stretch before buying one. Once you’ve got your Ethernet cable setting it up couldn’t be any easier. Assuming that you’ve already got an active internet connection you simply plug in one end of the Ethernet cable (the connection at the end is called an RJ45) into your home router or network switch and the other end into the back of your Xbox 360 console.

Connecting your Xbox 360 to a PC Monitor Using DVI

DVI CableConnecting your Xbox 360 gaming console to your PC monitor using a DVI Cable is very easy to do – let’s take a look at what’s involved.

A DVI Cable which stands for Digital Visual Interface was designed to maximize the visual quality of a device which is being displayed through a monitor. Used for carrying uncompressed digital video data to the display agent, the DVI is commonly used to connect an Xbox 360 gaming console to a monitor to increase the visual quality. DVI cables are compatible with HDMI in digital mode and compatible with VGA in analog mode. DVI cables are available in five models, each of the 5 models differs in the way they handle analog or digital transfers.

The DVI cable works like a converter box. The desired number of pixels is transmitted as binary data. Binary data is data which is kept in a computer file that can contain any type of data encoded in a binary form.

Connecting your Xbox 360 to a PC Monitor Using VGA

Xbox 360 VGA CableConnecting your Xbox 360 gaming console to your PC monitor using a VGA cable can be easily done. First, it is important to understand what a VGA cable is and what the function of a VGA cable is.

A VGA Cable which stands for Video Graphics Array, is also known as a VGA connector, RGB connector, D-sub 15, mini sub, D15 and mini D15. The VGA cable is a three-row, 15-pin DE-15. There are four versions of a VGA cable. These variations are the original, DDC2 pinouts, DE-9 connector and a Mini-VGA used with laptops. The VGA cable found on your Xbox 360 is a 15-pin VGA referred to as the HD-15, the HD standing for high density. Referring to the VGA cable as the HD-15 distinguishes from connectors that have the same form factor but only have two rows of pins versus the 15 found with the VGA. A VGA cable is used to transmit analog colors red, green, blue, horizontal sync and vertical sync, video signals and the digital clock and data. When using a laptop to play your Xbox 360 gaming console, a mini-VGA cable can be used. This is efficient due to size constraints faced when using a laptop.
